Accounting Syllabus

INSTRUCTOR:  Ms. Rosenow - Room #1407

 

COURSE LENGTH:  One Semester

 

STANDARDS/BENCHMARKS: 

A.  Complete and explain the purpose of the various steps in the accounting cycle.
B.  Apply generally accepted accounting principles to determine the value of assets, liabilities, and owner's equity.
C.  Prepare, interpret, and analyze financial statements, using manual and computerized systems for service, merchandising, and manufacturing businesses.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Accounting is an essential aspect of every business institution and organization.  As future workers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs, students who understand basic accounting principles will more knowledgeably manage their companies' financial resources.  As citizens, future parents, and investors, these students will be better prepared to make the economic decisions that will impact their communities.  Students will learn to apply manually/computerized the basic accounting principles for a sole proprietorship and to demonstrate knowledge of various journals and ledgers.  Accounting careers are discussed.

  

TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES:

Glencoe Accounting, First Year Course, Real World Applications and Connections, Glencoe/McGraw Hill, 2000.  Bring a notebook and pencil/pen to record notes and daily assignments.  Your daily planner is required to leave the classroom.

 

EVALUATION:

Grades will be based on student performance,class assignments and quizzes/tests.  Points will be lost due to disruptive behavior, tardiness, and excessive absences.

 

ATTENDANCE:  Class attendance on a daily basis is essential for successful completion of this course since the class hour is devoted to lecture and completion of the majority of assignments in class.

 

MAKE-UP WORK:  Students will have one day to make up work if absent from class and three days to make up a missed test.  Please see me before or after class to make arrangements for a missed test or to inquire about missed assignments.

 

No food, drink or gum chewing in the classroom!

This class is not for playing games on the computer!
